Sara Talks about Vines & Vibes
August 26, 2018
In December 2015, Do It For The Love was the recipient of a benefit holiday concert hosted by KEZR Mix 106.5 Radio in San Jose, CA. Four lucky wish grant recipients were honored with front-row seats to the concert and a back-stage meet & greet experience with Michael Franti, A Great Big World, and other participating bands.
All recipients had a night to remember. Eight-year-old Sam, who is living with cerebral palsy, stood up and danced, with the help of his family, during Michael’s performance. “On the ride home, Sam said “I had the best night of my life!” I have never seen him stand vertically for such a long period of time in his life. He clapped his hands all night and kept saying to me “I want to jump!” It was really quite remarkable to witness the powerful effect live music had on him,” said Sam’s aunt Lisa, who also volunteered at the event.
Nine-year-old Sarah is living with Hepatitis C and other health challenges. Her mom joyously watched her daughter dance on stage with Michael: “Sarah found magic in those bright-eyed moments of joy in sharing the healing power of music.”
Stephanie said it was “one of the best nights ever.” “I got to sing a small part of “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas” with A Great Big World, listen to an up close acoustic version of “Say Hey (I love you)”, sit in the front row, and dance on stage. I also caught a guitar pick from Michael Franti.”
We’re grateful to KEZR for the opportunity to share in the joy of this great evening!
