Sara Talks about Vines & Vibes

My name is Rick Swank and I was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when I was 3 years old. I am now 51 years old and although the cerebral palsy doesn’t get worse the symptoms that accompany it do. When I was in my early 30s I was also diagnosed with degenerative disc disease in my lower back. With the onset of degenerative disc disease I was forced to give up my employment which was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make. I had a lot of time on my hands because I wasn’t working. One of the ways that I began to fill that time was with live music. I realized quickly that music had a special way of reducing my pain if only for an hour or so during a concert or performance. Many people who suffer with chronic pain may agree that it is important to have special events planned so that we have things on the horizon to look forward to.
Last fall my friend Lori told me that she had nominated me for a wish grant to see Bon Jovi. My friend is such a big fan of Michael Franti, which is how she found out about Do It For The Love. Imagine my surprise when I learned that my wish has been granted! One of the biggest things that my wish grant did for me was to put an event on the horizon for me to look forward to. I think it is so wonderful that I was able to bring three of my best friends with me. Being able to share the wish grant was very special. The thing that I will take away from this experience is that there are many people in this world who are interested in helping others. Do It For The Love is all about helping others and making their lives better.
I think one of the best things that Do It For The Love does is to provide hope for better days ahead. “Remember that hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies” Do It For The Love is definitely one of those good things. Please continue in your endeavors to help others and make lives better.
