Rich Sees Billy Joel

April 19, 2018

Rich was diagnosed with ALS in 2016. He lost the use of both legs over a year ago and has recently lost the use of his left arm. He can no longer work or drive, and he needs help in most of life’s everyday tasks that so many take for granted.  However, he remains a smart, happy, and positive person with a great sense of humor. He is a wonderful father and a true friend to so many. Rich has always been an avid lover of live music having been to countless concerts, festivals, and for a time being a live music reviewer and blogger.  He is a self-taught guitarist since childhood who always loved to jam with family and friends.

Unfortunately, Rich now has great difficulty playing due to the recent progression of ALS into his arms and hands.  But still, he is seeing live music and getting out of the house as much as possible. Rich has maintained such a positive attitude considering what he is living with, and even started a blog recently to advocate for ALS research and to send his message of love, music, and about all of the awesomeness there is still to be had in his life.

Having met and been a huge fan of Michael Franti for years, Rich was extremely excited (and not surprised knowing the kind of person Michael is) when he learned about Do It For the Love and what Michael, Sara, and their team are doing for so many people who love music and the magic of a live performance.  Rich’s wish was to see Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden on his 55th birthday, March 28. Do It For The Love granted Rich’s wish, and he was able to spend his birthday in NYC with his kids and their mother for a fantastic night of love and live music with Billy Joel! Thank you so much to this wonderful and amazing organization that brings us music and joy during such a difficult time.  You truly helped us to make a memory of a lifetime!
