Michael Sees Billy Joel

August 7, 2018

We are always heartened by wish grant recipients who have beaten the odds of their diagnosis and live lives with a positive outlook and determination to inspire others.

“Michael was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystropy at the age of 7 years. His family was told that he would soon be in a wheelchair and that he might live into his early 20s. Michael was determined to beat the odds of his disease. He walked until he was 17 years and then relied on a power wheelchair for mobility. Michael attended college but lost his arm function at age 25 years, just as he was finishing his degree. His muscles have continued a slow and steady decline and Michael now uses a ventilator and has a feeding tube. Despite his prognosis, Michael is now 46 years old.”

We sent Michael to see Billy Joel live – his first live concert experience. We’re so glad to have provided such a positive experience for someone so deserving of the healing power of music.

“Wow! What an incredible experience to see Billy Joel live in concert,” Michael said. “Really, words fail me. It was a magical night that I am certain to remember for the the rest of my life. I didn’t know what to expect. It was a surprise to see LeAnn Rimes also perform. She opened the show and sang for the first 30 minutes. An extra treat! Powerful music and such amazing energy!  Thank you and everyone at Do It for the Love for making this possible. It was truly a transformative experience.”
