Joey Sees Ariana Grande

March 24, 2015

We recently received a heartfelt nomination from the mother of Joey, a 14-year old boy living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a progressive muscle-wasting disease that eventually affects the heart and breathing, for which there is no known cure. Joey’s favorite singer is Ariana Grande and as his mom noted: “His only means of happiness is music. This is such a cruel disease. The only thing he feels comfortable doing socially is concerts and the movies. He refuses any other social activities. It breaks our hearts to see him struggle. He doesn’t ask for a lot ever, so we are hoping this will be the best surprise of his life.”

We were able to send Joey and his parents to an Ariana Grande show in Worcester, MA and are glad to have helped Joey have such a memorable experience!

“How amazing was it for Joey to be so close to Ariana,” Joey’s mom wrote. “His face lit up when she came out. He saved his energy and asked his dad to stand when she came out. Doing  stretches allows him to stand for one minute. Joey said he had never been to a show where he could get to close to Ariana. Her show was amazing. It was one of the best times of his life. I had tears, my husband was also emotional. Thank you for giving our boy such an extravagant gift. Every day matters, especially when these dreams are made true. We’ve never seen a bigger smile on his face. The entire show.”

In Joey’s words: “The whole experience was extravagant! I am so thankful to you all. You made a dream come true for me. Never did I think I would be able to experience the thrill of seeing my favorite singer up close. I will treasure this night forever. Thank you so very much.”
