Joan Sees Elton John

January 26, 2016

The bond between sisters is a special and unique thing. We received a heartfelt nomination from Janelle, who shared a bit about her sister, Joan, and her nearly three-year fight with ovarian cancer. We were happy to provide tickets – with help from AEG Live – to see Elton John in Las Vegas for these sisters, their niece and Joan’s partner.

Their words capturing this memorable experience are below.

“That concert meant so much to me,” said Joan. “The chemo has not been working and the tumor has just been getting bigger. I have been very disheartened, but the concert really raised my spirits. When we returned we had an appointment with my oncologist and found out my CA0-125 number has dropped by 50 points, so the chemo has started to work again! Maybe it was the music or who knows, but I can’t thank you enough. You’ve really brought back hope to me after being so disheartened and down. Thank you, thank you, thank you!  The music really heals”

Janelle wrote a beautiful blog post about the experience:

“My gift is my song
And this one’s for you

And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple but now that it’s done
I hope you don’t mind
I hope you don’t mind
That I put in words
How wonderful life is while you’re in the world”

These are some of the lyrics to my favorite Elton John song, that I will always be grateful for hearing live with my beautiful sister. I believe she has the sweetest eyes that I have ever seen. Thank you to “The Do It For The Love Foundation” for sponsoring my sister, Joan, with an uplifting and joyous concert in Las Vegas with Elton John. We had a memorable and loving experience.

Our adventure began with a road trip from Auburn, CA to Las Vegas. Wow, it may have been a long drive but we kept it fun with crossword competitions, alphabet games, and books on tape. We checked into Bally’s, enjoying the VIP service.  Thank you for such a quality room with the most stunning views. We picked my niece up at the airport around noon, as she flew in from Bend, OR. Now we were all together!!

Elton John was absolutely fantastic. He engaged the audience with his powerful piano playing and meaningful lyrics. His show was over the top emotional and visually stimulating. We had terrific seats. We were mesmerized. Thank you for the extraordinary and incredible experience.

Elton John closed his concert with “The Circle of Life.”  As we all celebrate life, let us remember Hope, Healing and Music. Let is celebrate love. Let us hug one another. Let us feel peace.
