Sara Talks about Vines & Vibes
August 26, 2018
We received a touching nomination from the husband of Jessica, a woman who’s been living with systemic lupus erythematosus for several years. Her husband was deployed overseas with the Air Force while she struggled through the symptoms and underwent a multitude of treatments to keep the disease under control while raising her three young children.
“Michael Franti has been a large part of my wife’s life for sometime now. His music helps heal her heart. I see her lifted when she listens to him,” he said.
We were glad to send Jessica and her family to the 2015 California Roots Festival in Monterey to see Michael and their other favorite musician, Nahko Bear.
“I can’t thank you enough for the work you do. I’m still reeling from the past weekend. It seems so surreal,” Jessica said. “Meeting Michael was a 20-year dream come true for me. I felt truly honored and thoroughly blessed to meet him, Sara and Hossein. Before the Cali Roots festival, I had kind of mentally thrown in the towel because of Lupus. The music brought solace to my soul; it realigned my mind, mended my spirit and reignited the fight within me- just when I needed it most. Since the concert, I have awoke every morning with a grateful heart, determined that I will not let Lupus destroy my mind, even when it wreaks havoc on my body. My family’s experience will never be forgotten, by any of us. They deserved every single moment of joy as they have been my support system through it all. Thank you just doesn’t seem sufficient to the gratitude I feel.”
Special thanks to the California Roots Festival for providing access to the festival for this family as well as space for DIFTL to share information as a nonprofit partner.
