Jacob Meets Lindsey Stirling

February 19, 2015

Jacob is a 12-year old who was diagnosed two years ago with mitochondrial disease, which is terminal. Over the past year his health declined majorly and he has was in the hospital 19 times, totaling more than 150 days. Jacob’s mother nominated him for this grant and we were so thrilled to make his wish come true of seeing and meeting Lindsey Stirling in San Luis Obispo, CA. As his parents share below, it was a day to remember:

“When we signed up for this, we had no idea the impact it would have on all of us. Jacob has so many medical issues going on and we were scared taking a trip like this wouldn’t be good.  Especially how he had emergency surgery THE DAY BEFORE we left.

We left to go to the concert hours after he was released from the hospital. But he was so happy and was so excited to go that nothing was going to stop him. During the concert he had the biggest smile on his face. Bigger than I’ve ever seen it. And he kept saying how happy he was.  For those few hours, he was able to forget his pain and his illness and just be a kid! Just live his life. That to us is something he will have for the rest of his life. And it’s a memory we will never forget. He was so excited to get Lindsey to autograph some of his stuff so he can put it on his wall and always look at it. We were thrust back in to reality the day after getting home as he ended back in the hospital for a week. Every doctor or nurse who came in got to hear all about the trip. Jacob was so excited to tell everyone about his fun. He made Lindsey Stirling fans out of everyone. He made sure they heard her music and saw his pictures. Thank you again for everything – this experience has made us realize how important music is and how it really helps heal.”
