Sara Talks about Vines & Vibes
August 26, 2018
At the end of a challenging year of medical treatments and evaluations, the healing power of music was a welcome gift for eight-year-old Camden and his family. Diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in 2014 and later with Juvenile Myositis, Camden has been through a lot in his young life. He has a strong support system – #TeamCamden – led by his parents, both veterans. His father is still actively serving in the U.S. Army.
His mom wrote: “Camden is a typical boy that loves playing video games. He is outgoing, talkative and very sweet. We realized he was sick a year and a half ago over Christmas break. He had complained of leg pains and had trouble keeping up but it had been dismissed as growing pains and him being a kid. During the break we noticed he was always crawling up the stairs in our home instead of walking. I immediately got him an appointment to see our pediatrician. This began our journey of discovering he had not one, but two life-threatening neuromuscular diseases.”
Camden wished to see musician Andy Grammer, and we sent the family to Atlantic City, NJ, where they not only enjoyed the show but were VIPs backstage where they met Andy himself. It provided a bright spot in Camden’s journey to health and a memory to hold on to in this new year.
Go Team Camden!
