Armin Garcia Jr. Meets Darren Criss

November 12, 2016

Armin Garcia Jr., living with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, recently underwent a major transplant after receiving news of his relapse. “In March of 2015, I relapsed and was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia again. My treatment lasted approximately 7 months and was more aggressive this time around. Unfortunately, the chemotherapy was not as effective as it was during my first diagnosis in 2006 when I was 15. I did not qualify for any experimental treatments.” The final and only option for the 24-year-old was a bone marrow transplant.

It wasn’t easy finding a bone marrow match. Ultimately, Armin Jr. received his bone marrow from his father, someone he has a complicated relationship with. “Fortunately, the transplant seems to be going well with only a few bumps along the road. I am currently back at home recovering and making progress to a full recovery with the hope that cancer will not return, in any form, for the rest of my life. The experience was not all bad, it has brought my father and I together to resolve our issues and also brought my whole family closer together.”

Armin Jr.’s wish was to celebrate his birthday alongside his family, with tickets to the L.A. production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. We were thrilled to fulfill Armin Jr.’s birthday wish by providing a VIP experience. “After the show, we were able to go backstage and take a tour of the set and see the props from the show. After the tour, we were introduced to Darren Criss who was the nicest guy. We were able to get our playbills signed and even took a few pictures with him! This is a night I will never forget, thank you so much to everyone at Do It For The Love for making this happen.”  Music brings joy, hope and healing and we are so glad Armin Jr. was able to experience the healing power of music.
