Meet our Volunteer, Natalie!

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

My name is Natalie, I am a stay at home mom to four amazing blessings.  We homeschool our children also! Our oldest daughter is 12 and critically ill/special needs. She truly is our beautiful miracle.  Our six year old daughter was born on the Fourth of July and is our little firecracker.  Our four year old daughter is such a healing soul, and our one year old son is our relaxed little man that completed our family.  My husband and I met in high school, and I am blessed to get to spend my days with my soulmate.  Our family likes to do things together, and we love to go to the beach.  My husband and I love our biggest hobby of coaching Special Olympics.  Spending my time helping my kids grow and helping others in need is probably the largest thing that makes my heart happy.

What was your first impression of Do It For The Love?

I found Do It For The Love when Michael first started the organization. I immediately submitted a wish for our daughter, and she was approved! We waited three years for her wish for Michael to be close enough to our home to see him.  One thing that stood out to me was that DIFTL stayed in contact with me for three years so that we knew we weren’t forgotten.  Not many organizations do that! Once we had her wish, the night was more than we could have ever imagined it would be!!

What made you want to volunteer for Do It For The Love?

After Ryleigh’s wish was granted, my husband and I both knew we wanted to give DIFTL our time in any way we could! I felt that my love for helping others in need combined with being a mother of an actual wish recipient helped me to be able to go above the level of just a basic volunteer and share the love that our family received from our daughter’s wish with others.  I know what something like this means to families and to be able to help others feel the same is very important in my life.

What are you most excited about with volunteering for Do It For The Love?

I am most excited to help people have a once in a lifetime experience when their wish is granted.  I want to continue to see DIFTL flourish and look forward to being a part in making that happen in any way I can.

What has surprised you the most about Do It For The Love?

Honestly, knowing what we know about Michael and Sara, nothing really surprised me. They have such amazing hearts and when someone’s heart is in the right place, you are going to see beautiful things happen!

What other causes and organizations are you passionate about?

My biggest passion without a doubt is Special Olympics.  My husband and I serve on the board of our Carrollton/Farmers Branch Cyclones Special Olympics.  We both head coach and assistant coach multiple sports and volunteer at events we do not coach.  Our daughter and other athletes are such a ray of sunshine I couldn’t imagine going through life not being part of it.  I also run social media pages for Hugginz By Angel.  It is a non profit for a woman with Down syndrome that makes hand made quilts for critically ill children all over the world.  I love connecting with the world that so many people forget about.

What would you tell someone who is thinking about volunteering?

Don’t just volunteer to go to a concert.  Know that when you are volunteering, you are helping change someone’s life and affecting their family in such a positive way.  What’s more fun in knowing not only are you brightening someone’s life in a dark time, but you are having such a fun time while doing it!  Don’t ever think that any volunteering even if it is in a small way doesn’t matter.  It matters more than you know.
